Jump platforms, get the key, and move on!

Welcome to my very first game prototype!

This is a tiny, simple, but (hopefully) fun platformer created by a beginner developer. Don’t expect a masterpiece – it’s a first attempt, my debut project made for learning and experimentation!

How to Play:

  1. Spawn in a small dungeon room.
  2. Jump across platforms that appear in random locations.
  3. Find and defeat one enemy (yes, just one per level!).
  4. Pick up the key dropped by the enemy.
  5. Walk to the right edge of the screen to advance to the next level.

There are 5 levels total with this jump-key-collect gameplay. Your goal is simple: reach the end!

Controls:

  • Movement:  A (left), D (right)
  • Jump: SPACE
  • Attack: ESCAPE 

Important Notes:

  • This is a prototype! The game is minimalistic, quickly made, and my first attempt. Things might feel rough, unbalanced, or even broken.
  • Future development planned! I’m eager to improve this project (or create new ones!) based on your experience. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to me!

Install instructions

Installation & Launch:

  1. Download: Click the download button (usually labeled "Download" or similar) for your operating system (Windows).
  2. Unzip: You will receive a .zip file. Extract (unzip) its contents to a folder on your computer. (You can usually do this by right-clicking the .zip file and selecting "Extract All...").
  3. Launch: Inside the extracted folder, find the game executable file named Bone.exe. Double-click Bone.exe to start the game.
    • No installation required! Just unzip and run the .exe file.

Important Technical Note:

  • Resolution: The game is designed for and runs best at 1920x1080 resolution (16:9 aspect ratio). It may look stretched or have display issues on other resolutions.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Antivirus Alert? Some antivirus software might flag small, unknown .exe files (like Bone.exe) as a precaution. This is a false positive. You can safely allow the file to run. The game doesn't contain malware.
  • Missing DLL Error? If you see an error about missing .dll files (like VCRUNTIME140.dll or similar), you likely need the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. You can download the latest version directly from Microsoft: https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe (for 64-bit Windows) or search for "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable" for other versions.
  • Game Doesn't Launch? Try running Bone.exe as Administrator (right-click -> Run as administrator). Also, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
  • Close Background Apps: If performance is poor, try closing other programs running in the background.
